Moving to Hawaii

I left for Hawaii Thursday, Aug 20, 2009. This will be my first time living away from home. So I'm really nervous, and not as excited about this as most of the people I meet. It feels weird to be one of the oldest students transfering here, and yet be one of the least excited about it. I loved living at home. I had two great friends that have been there with me since junior high, a wonderful boyfriend of the past 4+ years, and a comfortable home that I am leaving behind while I persue my degree. Hopefully, Jason will be able to join me here in a year and make things that much better.

The night before I left for Hawaii, I couldn't sleep. My heart was seriously going like 140 beats per minute (I timed it), and all I had going through my mind was two songs. Both are from REO Speedwagon's album "The Hits". They were also both very ironic to me. "I don't want to sleep, I just want to keep on loving you" was the line from one that kept going through my mind. The other one was "In my dreams you love me" and yet I couldn't sleep, so I couldn't dream. I was very annoyed by both of those, because it was like they were taunting me. I also threw up twice that night. Not a good omen.

I'm not a great flyer, especially when I'm already nervous about something else. Thankfully, the 5 hour plane flight wasn't as bad as I was expecting. I didn't throw up on it, there wasn't bad turbulance, they gave us a full meal at lunch (I thought airlines stopped doing that), and I even got some rest (not sleep, but rest).

People from Chaminade picked my mom and I up from the airport and shuttled us to my new appartment, so we didn't have to rent a cab. Big plus! They even had a van making runs to Walmart and the Ala Moana Shopping Center to help people get things for their appartments. We only had an hour from the time they dropped us off at Walmart, but Mom and I had already made a list, and we power shopped! We spent over $240, had two very full shopping carts, and we were outside waiting at exactely the one hour mark. Of course, the van took another 15 - 20 minutes to get there, but we did it in under 1 hour! The rest of the people who were picked up with us were astonished at how much we were able to get in less time than them. They just don't know how to shop properly.

I met my suite mate, Laurel and she's very nice. We're going to get along very well. My room mate on the other hand.... well, we'll see. We're very different so I'm hoping we don't drive each other crazy this year. She's a big partier so she may be out for all hours of the night, while I'm more of a morning person here. Thankfully she has an aunt that lives very close to here that she goes out partying with, so I think when they're out late, my room mate just sleeps at her aunt's house.

I have almost everything I'm going to need for living in this apartment except for any pots and pans. Laurel said that she doesn't mind sharing the one that she has with me (so long as I take good care of it, I assume) but I don't want to be a huge mooch. So eventually I will need to invest in atleast a pot and pan.

Church was very nice. I had to catch 2 busses to get there, and of course I just barely missed the one I needed. (It was pulling away from the bus stop when I left my apartment.) So I just barely made it on time. I actually thought I was going to be late, but I hiked very quickly uphill in my rainbows 2 blocks after the bus dropped me off and I made it just in time. I met some nice people there, one of which, Alicia, goes to my school and was one of the orientation leaders there. She introduced me to another girl, Leiloni who lives near campus and owns a car. Leiloni is willing to give us rides to and from church. That was very nice.

On Monday I start classes. We'll see if I survive going back to school. Chemistry, Biology, Pre-Calculus, and World Religions on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Then on Tuesday and Thursday I have Chemistry and Biology labs all day. Fun stuff!
